This weekend the annual Britcar 24 Hour race takes to the centre of the BRSCC stage and the track action has already begun at Silverstone under the watchful eye of staff and marshals from the BRSCC Midlands Centre & HQ.

Today’s schedule is a mixture of qualifying sessions and races for the support acts but the 50 plus cars entered in the Britcar 24 Hours will also take to the Grand Prix circuit at lunchtime and then again at 8pm for a two hour night qualifying stint. The MJC team led by Witt Gamski won last year and they are back to defend their title in a Ferrari 430 GT2 with the same driver line-up of Witt, Keith Robinson, John Gaw & Phil Dryburgh.

There are 14 support races and the BRSCC is well represented with three of our championships in action; the Caterham Academy, the Alfashop Alfa Romeo Championship and the Ma5da MX5 Autumn Championship.

Emma Karwacki can wrap up the Alfa championship during their 25 minute race on Saturday morning. Neil Smith still retains a slim "mathematical" chance of overtaking her with a Rockingham race still remaining but for Emma, a class 1st, 2nd or a 3rd with fastest laps will do the trick!

All fifty or so cars competing in Autosport Caterham Academy this weekend will qualify together, before splitting into their usual groups for the races. For this final weekend, it is Gp2’s turn to go first. 27 year-old Kent based financial consultant Andy Welch has already secured the title, thanks to an impressive string of wins through the year. The only man to have beaten him is Brad Smith who is also secure in his title-runner up spot so it’s third place that will provide the core of the action. Rob Smith currently occupies the final championship trophy paying position, but is in danger of losing it to David Robinson.

The Academy Gp1 championship title has also been decided in favour of online gaming guru Elliott Norris, an unusual turn events for the Caterham Academy which usually goes to the wire. It was a long shot for third place man Charlie Bowmont to deny Rob Chappell of second in the championship, but with the former Household Cavalry officer unlikely to be able to make this final round, Norwich based driver Chappell will have done enough already to take the runner-up spot. Behind the top three, Charlie King and Achille Corbellati will be less intent on arguing about championship fourth as they will about battling for the lead. Both have had a win this year and would like to finish the season on a high and lay down a marker for Roadsports 2012.

In an exciting finale to the Academy season, many of the drivers are taking part in a bonus race on Saturday, sharing the grid with the Smart cars. With no qualifying session, grid slots will be determined by a method yet to be chosen by the drivers themselves, though reverse championship order seems most likely! This will be the first time that competitors from the two groups have raced against each other and though there is only honour at stake, expect an exciting five lap sprint as they try to determine which group had the best drivers.

Fifty five Mazda MX5s will take to the track this afternoon for the first of three races over the weekend that completes the Autumn Championship. Tom Roche will be out to repeat his success in winning the Mk1 championship while Adam Gore will challenge strongly having come second to Tom in the Mk1s and also third in the Ma5da Cup for Mk3s.

The other support races include the March Racing Academy Sports 2000 Duratec Championship, the Monoposto/MSV F3 Cup, Porsche Club and two races for the Smart Fortwo Brabus.
