It may be our last visit of the season, but it’s safe to say we may have just saved the best until last. Anglesey in North Wales hosts us one more time in 2017, with two endurance races dominating the time table here on the Welsh coast. Plus, for what could possibly the first time in a BRSCC race weekend we’re sharing track time with motorsport of the two wheeled variety, as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations for the circuit!

With just two weekends left, the FunCup Championship is really beginning to intensify. This weekend will see two 3 hour endurance races take place, with the first running late afternoon on Saturday, before a separate night time qualifying session will be followed by the second encounter running into the darkness. This will have been the one and only time the championship runs when the sun goes down, although some drivers will have already had their fill thanks to competing in the Spa 25 Hours in Belgium. Right now, it’s Team Trooper Iron Maiden leading the way with BTCC legend Anthony Reid leading the charge, although reigning champions JPR Uvio are only 7 points back at this stage, while Track Torque 2 Rent Dominos are waiting in the wings.

This weekend is also a crucial one in Formula Ford circles, particularly if your names are Luke Williams and Neil MacLennan. After a long and intense season of racing, the Britcover National Formula Ford 1600 Championship with Avon Tyres reaches its highly anticipated climax. With 7 different race winners and pure wheel-to-wheel action all the way through, one thing is for certain here – someone is leaving Anglesey with the coveted entry ticket to the Mazda Road To Indy USF2000 $200,000 Scholarship Shootout in early December in the US. Of course, there’s the Clubman titles to also settle too, but the attention will mainly be on the Pro Class and the duel for the National crown. Trust us, this one will be intense!

But that’s not all – there’s more Formula Ford action provided by the equally competitive Avon Tyres Northern Championship. A handful of National drivers will be crossing over to compete in these races too and gain some extra competitive track time, such as Joshua Smith, Matt Round-Garrido and Sebastian Melrose. They will do battle in Class A, but most of the focus is likely to be on Dutchman Jaap Blijleven who is taking great strides towards securing the Class C, Pre ’90 and overall crowns. A continuation of his superb form throughout this season will put him within arms’ reach of the ultimate prize.

One of the longest standing championships in the BRSCC, the Electrovape.co.uk XR Challenge allows both the Fiesta XR2 and Escort XR3i, two of Ford’s cult classics from the 80s in this country the chance to continue racing in their own championship and therefore extend their competition life. Their 2017 season is also nearing its end, both class titles are also coming to the same conclusion also. Mark Robinson appears to be the clear leader in the XR2 class ahead of former champion Greg Speight and Steve Poole, with Alistair May and Matthew Eldridge also names to watch as they hold station in the top 5. As for the XR3is, Matthew Spencer and Michael Blackburn will lock horns with Peter Futer also joining in the fun this weekend.

Finally, something a little different for a BRSCC meeting – bikes! As part of the 25th anniversary of the Anglesey circuit, the Wirral 100 Club bring their Formula 600 series to mark the occasion with two races on Sunday. 25 years ago, Wirral 100 ran the first ever bike meeting on the circuit back in 1997, so there will be a special feeling in the paddock amongst the competitors. Hopefully this will be a refreshing and unique spectacle amongst all of our 4-wheeled action!

There’s all sorts to keep you occupied this weekend and besides, who doesn’t love a weekend by the coast? Especially when motorsport is involved!
