ALFA FAMILY AFFAIR

CATEGORIES:

BRSCC Alfashop Alfa Romeo Championship competitors left Snetterton in April with the unusual (and perhaps unique?) situation of father and daughter – Chris and Mel Healey -heading the points table after two rounds in their 3 litre GTV and 156 respectively.

Round 3 was at Oulton Park on May 15 and both Chris and Mel again enjoyed outstanding races. After a qualifying session cut short with a suspect driveshaft gaiter, Chris was soon into his stride in the race although his class (C) was being led by Castle Combe winner Shaun Hazlewood. Sadly Shaun's championship chances took a severe dive when his 3 litre GTV stopped without warning leaving Chris to take an armful of points. Meanwhile, daughter Mel was fighting it out in Class E with 2009 overall champion Paul Plant. She managed to get ahead of him once and tried on several other occasions but eventually had to be satisfied with 2nd place. This meant that her father would leave Oulton with a 2 point advantage.

The race overall produced a convincing win for the returning Sam Laird with an ex Julian Birley/Enzo Buscaglia 75 3 litre, preparation now back in the hands of Avon Racing. Chris Healey finished 2nd ahead of the Class B Alfetta GT of Nev Simpson who was being harried at the flag by the GTV of Graham Seager. The next three places went to Paul Plant, Mel Healey and Sarah Heels (147 GTA) while Class D was won by Steve Fletcher's 33 16v”

The Championship moves to Cadwell Park for a double header meeting on June 5/6. With 44 points at stake in each class (number of starters permitting) it will be interesting to see who can put the Healeys under pressure.
