ALL THINGS OULTON

CATEGORIES:

The BRSCC North Western Centre loves running race meetings at Oulton Park which is fortunate as tomorrow’s meeting is the second of three they will organise at the Tarporley circuit in a five week spell!

First on track as part of the 12 race schedule are the local heroes of the Pre 90 category of the Avon Tyres Northern Formula Ford Championship. The results of the last two meetings ensure that it is now very close at the top of the points table. John Farrell continues to lead the way in his Reynard FF89, but Lee Hannam and Nigel Dolan are right on his tail, tying in points for second place.

In the post 89 section, battle will re-commence between experienced racer, Stuart Gough and championship leader, Jordan Skinner. Gough took a double win a fortnight ago to narrow the gap on the young Aussie who had to settle for second place in the first race and a DNF in the second.

Another of Oulton’s favourite championships is also back on home ground following an away day excursion to Mallory Park. Paul Bishop heads the XR2 class of the BRS Recovery Ford XR Challenge and has a solid lead over his closest rivals, Preston’s Craig Readyhough and Northwich’s Simon Sheridan. Matters are a little closer in the XR3i category where Anglesey’s John-Ifan Jones leads a three way battle with Marcus Riley and Mark Robinson.

Another BRSCC championship that is on the up is the Formula Jedis. 21 cars are entered for tomorrow’s double header. 2009 Champion Richard Mitcham comes into this weekend following a double victory at the last rounds at Brands Hatch, breaking the lap record on the way, and will be hoping for a repeat performance. However it’s 2008 Champion Jack Smith who still stands at the top of the championship table closely followed by Richard Gittings, Scott Stevens, Andrew Dunn and Barry Armstrong. With only 19 points separating them, all will be hoping for outright victories. Others to watch are 2007 Champion Nigel Reuben, Stu Abbott and Dan Cook.

Guesting at Oulton Park are two championships from Porsche Club Great Britain: The Porsche Club Championship has seen some exiting race action this season and today’s raceday should be no exception. In Class 1 Mark McAleer did the early winning, before Marcus Carniel finally ended his run of victories at Silverstone in June, and Carniel and Pete Morris shared the wins at Snetterton in July. Leading the championship overall is Chris Dyer, who has done the majority of the wining in Class 2. The Yorkshireman hasn’t had it all his own way, and is under pressure from Cieran Brewer and Richard Bennett.

In the Porsche GT3 Cup the opening rounds have seen Jim Geddie take all four wins, the experienced Porsche racer straight on the pace in his 997. Geddie missed the previous two rounds at Snetterton, which were won by Mark Hazell and George Richardson. Highlighting the driveability of these potent cars was the performance of Stephen Ritchie, who claimed second in both races at Brands Hatch on his first ever race outing. Similarly, race newcomer Peter Smallwood has set the Class Two pace in his 996.
