BRSCC South Eastern Centre Clerk, Derek Stanley, was declared the winner of the Bert Lamkin Memorial Salver for the 2013 season at the Awards Dinner on Saturday night.

The Salver is presented annually to the Club member who has done the most to "promote the name and interests of the Club" and is named in memory of Bert Lamkin who served the BRSCC with great distinction from the 1950's through to the 1970's.

When announcing Derek as the winner, BRSCC Chairman Bernard Cottrell said, “Like the vast majority of senior officials, Derek started his involvement in motorsport as a marshal and he certainly served his time on the bank mainly at Brands Hatch in the 80s & 90s, but moving further afield to other circuits whenever time allowed.

He progressed through the ranks before deciding he would like to pursue his motorsport career on the inside of Race Control and duly trained as a Clerk of the Course, a role I’m glad to say he now fulfils at a multitude of BRSCC meetings every the season.

He obviously has never heard the old army adage of never volunteer for anything because he always does and although based in the South East he will gladly travel to circuits up and down the country to officiate.

Derek is a regular visitor to HQ and is always happy to help-out with any tasks that need doing. This was particularly the case when Carol Jackson of the HQ staff sadly passed away in 2011.

Many of the drivers here tonight will have come across him in his capacity as a Clerk but I can assure you all, that he does have a much softer side!”
