Audi Sport were the victors of the FIA WEC 6 hours of Silverstone yesterday when Swiss driver Marcel Fässler took the chequered flag in the no7 R18 e-tron quattro to win the RAC Tourist Trophy.

Fässler, along with team-mates Benoit Tréluyer and Andre Lotterer thus become the latest drivers to have their names engraved on the historical trophy. A frantic last 15-minutes, which included a Stop-Go penalty for the leaders, gave the Porsche 919 of Neel Jani, Romain Dumas and Marc Lieb a fighting chance but when the 6 hours were up they 4.6 seconds adrift of the Audi Sport Team Joest car.

A further 10-seconds back in third were last year’s winners Anthony Davidson and Sebastian Buemi, who were joined in the Toyota TS040 Hybrid by Kazuki Nakajima.

The Russian team, G-Drive Racing enjoyed a very successful weekend in LMP2 with their Ligier JS P2s claiming the first two podium positions. Roman Rusinov, Sam Bird and Julien Canal took the class win ahead of team-mates Gustavo Yacaman, Luis Felipe Derani and Ricardo Gonzalez.
