BRSCC LAUNCHES MAZDA CHAMPIONSHIP
The BRSCC has today announced that it fully intends to run a full series of races for the Mazda MX5 in 2013. The Club has lodged a Notice of Intent with the Motor Sports Association for Championship status in 2013 and are confident that it will be approved.
The Club has run four successful seasons of Mazda MX5 racing and have the experience, the circuits, the financial capability and the trust of its members to deliver a first rate championship to the drivers. The Club will appoint an experienced championship co-ordinator and are working on plans to provide television coverage, event hospitality and a dedicated website.
BRSCC Competitions Director, Drew Furlong, explained, “When Ma5da Racing announced in June that they would be seeking a new organising club we decided our next course of action would be determined by the views of the drivers, our members. In the last few weeks, it has been increasingly apparent that there is a ground swell of support for the BRSCC to offer current and new competitors an alternative to Ma5da Racing. We firmly believe that by running the MX5 championship we will offer competitors stability and the confidence to prepare for the new season. Therefore, we have taken this decision in the best interests of BRSCC members who currently race the Mazda MX5, and potential drivers who are interested in joining the championship.”
