COMBE CALLS MIGHTY MINIS

Mighty Minis have entertained regulars at the Castle Combe Action Day for many years with scintillating passenger rides around the circuit. Having enjoyed the experience many passengers have longed to see the championship in proper race action at the picturesque Wiltshire track.

Well, this Bank Holiday Monday (31st May) they will finally get their wish as both the Mighty and Super Mighty Minis Championships head to Combe for a double-header. It is no secret that they there are immensely entertaining to watch and have captured the hearts of many a spectator of British motor racing.

The Mighty Minis Championship caters for the beginner and more seasoned racer alike. Do not be fooled when watching the racing, as most if not all of the drivers were newcomers to the sport and have only ever raced a Mighty Mini. However the commitment is second to none as they throw their cars at the corners, four-wheel drifting in a manner reminiscent of the bygone greats.

One of the most entertaining drivers to watch is Plymouth based Louise Inch who for the first time ever is sharing the grid with her highly experienced father, Paul Inch. This a family name synonymous with Mini racing at Castle Combe, as for the stalwarts out there, you may remember her grandfather Chris Inch racing in his pink Mini clubman 1275.

The current championship leader is Matt Pinny with Peter Bonas hot on his heels, with first time racer Peter Tervet the surprise of the pack in third. I am sure they will entertain, so enjoy the spirited races and remember you could be out there yourself one day!

Moving up a grade, Super Mighty Minis is for the more experienced racer and certainly not for the faint hearted! The grid is made up of no less that eight ex champions in one or other of the Mighty Minis championships so we are sure that the spectators are going to witness some epic races.

Bob Bennetts has the honour of being the last ever Mini Cooper works driver in it's classic guise, prior to the new BMW models that we now know. He is not a man who takes losing lightly and has honour to uphold at Castle Combe in front of largely his home crowd. Championship leader Neven Kirkpatrick will certainly try to deny Bob his glory, however there are other young pretenders namely 2010 race winners Scott Kendall and Chris Morgan who have their own history to create.

Two new drivers are taking part in James Lyford and Andy Slade whose son, Chris, is taking part in the standard series. No fear ladies as I am sure Caroline Gilbert will do you proud in her viper replica Mini. Bring it on!!!
