Last Saturday night proved to be a rather special one for the BRSCC Midlands Centre Chairman, David Pierre. Not only was it his 70th birthday but he was also declared as the winner of the Bert Lamkin Memorial salver for the 2014 season at the BRSCC awards dinner.

His good friend Bernard Cottrell made the presentation and also told the 400 guests why David was the worthy winner. “Known to most of us at the ‘Barmy Brummie’, David started marshalling many years ago or as he would say “before Pontius was a pilot”. He has marshalled all over the world and has been responsible for training marshals from many countries as far afield as China and South Korea.

He was a member of the Midlands Centre Rescue Unit and sat on the MSA Rescue Panel for many years. He was also responsible for marshals’ selection for the Grand Prix in the 80s and 90s. He went on to hold a Clerk of the Courses Licence which he has done since 1992 and has been an MSA Steward since 1998. I’m especially grateful to him as he stood in for me as Race Director for British GT for the second half of 2014 when I became ill and although he felt he had been presented with the “poison chalice” he did a super job.

He has been the permanent Clerk of the Course for the British Formula Ford Championship and from this season will be looking after the new MSA Formula Certified by FIA, powered by Ford EcoBoost Championship".
