FORMULA FORD FESTIVAL 2013
If any one meeting could be described as the BRSCC's 'blue riband' event it is the Formula Ford Festival. Taking place each October at Brands Hatch, the Festival made the Motorsport News top ten of world-wide events that every driver wants to win!
Festival success has lead to greater achievement on the Grand Prix stage for many drivers. Johnny Herbert,Roland Ratzenberger, Eddie Irvine, Mark Webber Jenson Button and Anthony Davidson are just some of the names on the Festival’s roll of honour.
Niall Murray is the new name on the Neil Shanahan Trophy after the Dublin teenager held off a strong challenge from Wayne Boyd and Oliver White in the Formula Ford Festival Final at Brands Hatch on Sunday 27th October 2013. Boyd won the John Nicol Trophy as the most outstanding British driver and White claimed the Roger Pedrick Trophy, as the highest placed English driver.
There was another triumph for Ireland, although north of the border this time, in the Historic Final with Jonathan McMullan winning from Richard Tarling and Klaus-Dieter Hackel. Tarling also took the Pre 82 class honours with James Buckton heading the Pre 72 runners.
The Duratec class was also an international affair with Dutchman Bart Van Os winning from American Abdul Ahmed with young Dane Frederik Schandorff in third. Previous winner Julain Hoskins claimed the Zetec title ahead of Swiss John Salmona and Frenchman Eric Heudicourt.
Not surprisingly the Irish team of Niall Murray, Stephen Daly and Neville Smyth accrued the most points in the World Cup, with Northern Ireland second and England third.
