Race meetings at Castle Combe are usually well attended by the paying public but they predictably turned out in even greater numbers for the 60th anniversary celebration meeting at the picturesque Wiltshire track last weekend.

Over two hundred competitors raced at the meeting but two drivers who really captured the bumper crowds imagination were Jeremy Gumbley of the Competition Car Insurance/Dunlop Ford Fiesta Championship and Laurence Kilby from the Arrowpak Euro Saloons. Both drivers put back to back victories together, Kilby in his Mitsubishi Evo 9 and Gumbley in his Fiesta ST. Kilby’s win came ahead of Guy Higgs and Ilsa Cox in race one. Ilsa’s Seat Leon Cupra repeated the trick in race 2 with the Nissan Primera Super Tourer of Keith Butcher sandwiched between.

Gumbley’s double triumph came at the expense of David Abbott and David Nye in the first outing. Nye replicated Cox in also coming third in both races, with Rory Bryant taking the second podium step in race 2.

Meanwhile, over at Snetterton the BRSCC F3 Series guested at a BARC run meeting. Alex Craven renewed his rivalry with Chris Needham in the first race and the pair finished first and second in that order. Suprisingly both Craven and Needham were DNF’s in race two clearing the way for Mark Harrison, Louis Hamilton-Smith and Nicholas Robinson to take the podium positions
