The Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain reached the half way stage of the 2014 season at Croft last weekend with rounds 13, 14 and 15.

In Saturday’s first encounter Harrison Scott led from pole position to chequered flag, but was spared having to defend his lead from a combative Ashley Sutton by the arrival on track of the Safety Car in the closing stages. Sutton had climbed from sixth on the grid to second place within six laps, and was on to Scott’s tail, and shaping up to pass, by lap nine, just before the caution period started. Sutton thus had to settle for second place and a handsome Scholarship class victory. Argentinian Juan Rosso was third for the Radical Motorsport team.

Ashley Sutton quickly made up for the frustrating finish to the opening race by nailing his first Formula Ford championship race victory in the second encounter, blasting past not only Scott but also James Abbott to do so. It was the Jamun Racing team’s first win of the year.

A cool, calm and collected James Abbott secured victory in front of the ITV4 live cameras on Sunday afternoon, the 20-year-old from Lincolnshire taking control at the start of Round 15 and holding on all the way to the chequered flag despite heavy pressure in the closing laps from Ashley Sutton.

Abbott’s Radical Motorsport EcoBoost Mygale crossed the finish line a tenth of a second ahead of the Jamun Racing machine of Round 14 victor Sutton; it was James’s second win of the season and his first achieved other than from pole position in a reverse-grid race. Harrison Scott placed third to complete a hat-trick of Croft podium finishes; the Essex youngster left North Yorkshire with a nine-point championship lead over JTR’s South African, Jayde Kruger.
