INCH IS QUEEN OF THE CASTLE

The Mighty Minis racing fraternity visited Castle Combe race circuit last weekend and entertained in abundance. Paul Inch, competing in a one off race put his Mini on Pole, repeating his qualifying performance on his last visit, albeit in a Super Mighty Mini.

After what can only be described as a race with everything a spectator and driver could ask for, it was lady driver Louise Inch who was victorious after fending off a relentless attack from Matt Pinny and Peter Bonas, with her father Paul trying his best to ride shotgun. Peter Bonas took the second step on the podium with Pinny third.

The second race was again a stunning race with Louise Inch repeatedly leading for most of each lap until either Bonas or Adrian Tuckley managed to squeeze past, generally up the inside into Camp, Inch retaking the lead again over Avon rise and into Quarry. This was probably a clear indication as to how the race was going to end as Tuckley set himself up going into the chicane and made his move for the final time taking the lead into camp and winning the race. This was his first race win in over four years of competing in Mighty Minis. Louise finished second beating her much more experienced father who finished third.

Chris Morgan and Scott Kendall locked horns at the front of the first of the Super Mighty Minis races until they were joined in battle by Gary Patterson, Elliot Stafford and veteran Bob Bennetts. Morgan and Stafford were side by side on the run up to Avon rise giving Patterson the perfect drafting opportunity to leap-frog them both, to put Kendall under pressure for the lead. Kendall held off the attack and duly won an amazing race. Stafford and Patterson were second and third respectively.

Scott Kendall tried to repeat this in the second race but Patterson was determined to be triumphant taking an early lead until Bennetts edged ahead in an attempt to defend his local honour. However Neven Kirkpatrick had other ideas and took the lead in the closing stages and went on to win the race closely followed by Bennetts and Pat Ford.

A fantastic racing weekend was enjoyed by all of the Mighty Minis competitors, friends and family. A barbeque put on by their fellow South Western competitors added to the convivial atmosphere in the paddock. The Mighty Minis will certainly be returning to the Wiltshire circuit next year.
