JIM McGREGOR 1948 – 2012

CATEGORIES:

It is with great sadness that the BRSCC learned of the death following a short illness of long-standing Club member and official Jim McGregor, aged 64.

Hailing from Whitstable, Jim developed an interest in motorsport and decided to further his involvement by volunteering to marshal at Brands Hatch, learning his trade 'on the bank', and rising through the ranks to become Observer, then qualifying as a Clerk of the Course.

When race entry responsibilities were devolved to the Club's Centres, Jim became the natural choice to handle such duties for the South Eastern Centre, where he was regarded as an amiable and efficient Competitions Secretary and Secretary of the Meeting, well respected by the racing fraternity.

He also joined the SE Centre Committee, acting as Vice Chairman, where his stewardship of meetings in the absence of the regular Chairman Bernard Cottrell ensured business was conducted smoothly.

When race entry duties were re-absorbed back into HQ, Jim resumed clerking duties until health problems restricted his ability to travel from his Whitstable home, also deciding to step down from the SE Centre Committee.

Beyond his enthusiasm for motorsport, Jim was a staunch supporter of the Whitstable Castle Trust, becoming a Director of the charity and playing an instrumental role in securing a Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery Fund grant award of £2,063,000 for the local attraction.

Jim will be sorely missed and the Club and his friends in the South Eastern Centre would like to pass on their condolences to Jim’s family.
