Nissan’s new performance model, Juke Nismo, made its UK track debut at Oulton Park yesterday, in its role as the official Safety Car for the 2013 Avon Tyres British GT Championship. The stunning new 134mph version of Nissan’s innovative crossover, which benefits from a host of Nismo performance enhancements, will feature at all six UK rounds of the popular race series.

Nismo launched in Europe with the Juke Nismo, writing the first chapter in a production car story which will unveil a range of models benefiting from its motorsport DNA. The performance-driven Juke Nismo, offering enhanced styling, improved performance and sportier handling, will also support the Cooper Tires British F3 International Series. The opening round of the F3 series takes place at Silverstone Circuit on 25-26 May.

Nissan Motor (GB) Marketing Director, Guillaume Masurel, said: “The Juke Nismo has been the centre of attention since its conception. Nismo is about providing innovation and excitement for everyone, with the Juke becoming the first model to be given the Nismo treatment. Its track-derived design and its innovative performance capabilities make this a perfect car to take on the official Safety Car role of the 2013 British GT and F3 Championships. We look forward to showcasing its design, engineering and performance personality to the thousands of fans that attend each round.”

The BRSCC will oversee the operations of the Safety Car in the British GT & F3 championships and we have once again appointed the experienced services of John Quartermaine to drive this car.

Bernard Cottrell, Chairman of the BRSCC and Race Director for both Championships, said: “We are delighted to support this Safety Car partnership with Nissan for the second year in succession. The Juke-R proved a huge talking point last year amongst the fans and I’m sure the Juke Nismo will enjoy the same level of interest.”

Under the bonnet of the distinctive new Juke Nismo is a tuned version of Nissan’s 1.6-litre direct-injection turbocharged (DIG-T) petrol engine. It features stiffer suspension and steering modifications for sportier handling with more grip and cornering ability. Produced in the UK alongside the standard Juke model, the Nismo accelerates from 0-62mph in 7.8 seconds and has a top speed of 134mph.
