Donington Park’s Kevin Wheatcroft was awarded the prestigious BRSCC John Nicol Memorial Trophy at the 2010 Awards Dinner Dance at the Holiday Inn, Stratford-upon-Avon on Saturday night.

The trophy, named in honour of John Nicol, a former Chief Executive of the BRSCC was presented to Kevin by John’s widow Debs Nicol.

In announcing the award BRSCC Chairman Bernard Cottrell said “Kevin has made a great contribution to motorsport in this country this season and in doing so would have made his late father extremely proud. Through his sheer hard work and determination he was able to make one of Britain’s most loved circuits operational again following the chaos left when Simon Gillett’s Donington Venture Leisure went into administration and the historic circuit lay dormant for 12 months. It is to the benefit of motorsport that racing has returned to Donington and it is once again in the hands of the Wheatcroft family”.

More than 300 guests attended the awards dinner and we will have news and photos of more awards later in the week.
