The most successful Formula Ford 1600 driver in the country will earn a free entry into October¹s Formula Ford Festival in a new challenge created by the British Racing and Sports Car Club and Motorsport News.

MN will collate driver rankings for the category by awarding points for every FF1600 race in the UK this season. The racer at the top of the standings on Monday, October 4 will earn the £295 prize. The competition will be called the Motorsport News Road to the Festival.

Drew Furlong, the BRSCC Competitions Director, endorsed the initiative. He said: “We see the Motorsport News Road to the Festival rankings as a very positive move. Anything that engenders more interest in the category has got to be good news. It will certainly enable the Kent-engined community to keep up to date with who is doing what in the various regional championships across the UK.”

Australian Jordan Skinner, who is taking part in a number of championships this season, leads the current rankings. Don Hardman runs Skinner's car and he said the prize would help generate more interest in the October 16/17 Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch: “Kent Formula Ford is one of the most popular categories across the country. This will bring everyone together and will highlight who the big players are going to be when we get to the Formula Ford Festival. It's a great idea.”

Current points leader Skinner, 19, added: “It's going to be a great incentive for everyone to keep pushing throughout the year and it's another thing to win, which is what all drivers want. I hope I can maintain my position at the top.”
