With the newly crowned champion Dan Cammish having retired unbeaten from the series, this weekend’s Silverstone rounds of the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain offer a long-awaited chance for another driver and team to claim the victory honours.

JTR driver Cammish clinched the title earlier this month after an extraordinary run of 24 consecutive victories, but the man who ran him close at Rockingham, Jayde Kruger, is sorry to see him go. “I would have liked to have beaten Dan while he was there,” said the 25-year-old South African, “and I think that now we are in a place where we could probably do it. But unfortunately he’s gone.” Cammish beat Jamun Racing driver Kruger to the finish of round 24 by just 0.361s: “I think we are the first people to push him to the end of the race. In all the other races he just pulled away and after that backed off. “I think we are on the up, and what I would like to do is to win all the races from here on out, but we will have to see what happens at Silverstone. It will be a drag race, and that’s a slight worry for us. We will have to see what we can do to sort out our straightline speed, then I will just carry on and do what I do, and we will see what happens.”

There is no shortage of candidates for the Silverstone victory laurels. Leading the contenders and bidding to secure not only championship second but also the Scholarship class title is 17-year-old Harrison Scott, who has finished on the overall podium 13 times this year and has taken the Scholarship class honours 10 times for Falcon Motorsport.
Kruger’s Jamun teammate, Juan Rosso, has shown flashes of great speed on occasion this season and is always entertaining to watch. The Argentinian finished second at Donington and Thruxton and returned to the podium at Rockingham for the first time in 10 races.

JTR’s team leader may have moved on but the Northants-based squad retains a strong line-up, with both Sam Brabham and American Camren Kaminsky having shown podium pace already. Dan may not be racing, but he will be on hand to give his teammates advice and encouragement; Cammish’s multiple race-winning Mygale chassis will meanwhile be in the hands of 19-year-old Max Marshall, relatively inexperienced but a driver who enjoyed success in Formula Ford in late 2011.

Others to watch out for include Andy Richardson and James Abbott, both of whom showed great pace at Rockingham, 16-year-old rookie Connor Mills, who made the Scholarship class podium for Meridian Motorsport earlier this month at only his second race meeting, and Scott’s Falcon Motorsport team-mates Luke Reade and Andy Chang – the Macanese driver had a tough baptism at Rockingham but shone in the final race of the weekend.
