NORTHERN FF PLANS ANNOUNCED

CATEGORIES:

Following on from a recent survey conducted amongst competitors in the BRSCC Northern Formula Ford Championship, the Club’s Competitions Director Drew Furlong held a planning meeting last week with the series co-ordinator and representatives of the drivers to decide the way forward for 2011.

As a result the BRSCC can now announce an outline for the proposed championship in line with the wishes of the majority of regular competitors. The key points are:

The current class structure for Post 89 and Pre 90 cars will be maintained.

Due to the commitment shown by the drivers in the 2010 season, split grids will be run for both Post 89 and Pre 90 cars for all qualifying sessions and races. All sessions, qualifying and racing, will be for 20 minutes.

The championship will again run at Oulton Park and Anglesey, but there will be an "away" day at Donington Park. Thus the calendar will feature 8 events; 5 at Oulton Park, 2 at Anglesey and 1 at Donington Park.

The championship will be contested over either 13 or 14 rounds. Both single and double headers will feature at Oulton Park and a double header at Donington. One Anglesey event will be a double header and feature a qualifying session and a race on each day. All rounds to count, less two.

Subject to consultation with the drivers, the other Anglesey event may feature a qualifying session and a race on Saturday, followed by a further two races on Sunday, thus making the event a triple header.

The grid for race two of the double headers will be based either on the results of race one or on second fastest qualifying time. The method to be used will be confirmed in event Final Instructions.

Drew Furlong explained, “We are always interested in feedback from our racing members and this is a good example of all parties working together to improve the championship. We have come up with ideas that are suitable to both parties.”
