The BRSCC OSS Championship has joined forces with the CRAI (Caerphilly, Islwyn & Rhymney) Scout District in South Wales to help them raise funds for the Scout group. In return, the CRAI are providing a hospitality centre for OSS competitors in the Paddock at the remaining rounds this season.

CRAI District Commissioner, Miranda Holmes, explains how the tie-up came about. “Through our love of motorsport we became friends with OSS co-ordinator Alan Jenkins and attended with him a race meeting at our local circuit, Pembrey, and the idea to provide hospitality for the OSS Championship was born.

The monies donated for the provision of the hospitality centre will be used by the CRAI to provide young people in our District with the opportunity to enjoy all elements, and excel in all aspects, of Scouting. At present there are about 500 young people spread across three Welsh Valleys. Due to the closure of the coalfields and many large industrial trades in South Wales many families are unable to fund the extras activities, such as camping, that are available for the young people.

All members of the CRAI Scouting District appreciate the donations from the OSS drivers and I know that there will be a lot of young people, leaders and parents who will be very grateful for their support”.

The hospitality centre was in operation for the first time at Snetterton last weekend and Alan Jenkins was very pleased with how it went, “Miranda & Laurie provided bacon sandwiches first thing in the morning and hot-drinks all day. It was a big success at Snetterton with many of the teams enjoying using the centre. We have always had a good paddock atmosphere but the addition of this focal point has improved it enormously. We would all like to thank Miranda & Laurie for their hard work and wish them the best of luck for their wedding next month.”

The BRSCC OSS Championship is next in action at Brands Hatch on 3/4th August
