RETURN TO PEMBREY

CATEGORIES:

Nick Boon's Honda Civic will be in Euro Saloons action at Pembrey this weekend.

The BRSCC South Western Centre will run their first and only meeting of the season this weekend at Pembrey, returning to the circuit for the first time in over two years. Ten races are scheduled over the two day meeting at the scenic Carmarthenshire track.

The BRSCC Alfashop Alfa Romeo Championship reaches its halfway point this weekend with a double header. 2010 overall champion, Mel Healey, has continued where she left off at the end of last year by staying top of the 2011 points table although she is coming under increasing pressure from Neil Smith and Steve Dymoke. All three are in 156s but run in different classes, so the rivalry is not always obvious to spectators, but it is always there nonetheless. The results here could well determine the eventual outcome of the title battle.

There are also two 25 minute races for the Euro Saloon & Sports Car Championship. Richard Hawken from Walton-on-Thames is the current leader, amassing 100 points from the four rounds so far in his Nissan Primera Super Tourer. With three main challengers all absent it is up to Andy Jordan in his Renault Clio to take the fight to Hawken. There will also be some tight battles for leadership of the classes, particularly in Class A where Barry Squibb and Ian Froggatt are tied on 48 points.

With 6 out of 14 rounds gone in the BRSCC OSS Championship, 2010 champion Tony Sinclair tops the points table and will be determined to stretch the 29 point gap between him and Class B’s Ginger Marshall. Ginger campaigns a Bowlby while Tony favours what seems to be the car of choice in OSS – a Jade.

Adding some local colour to proceedings will be the 13 entrants in the Welsh Sports & Saloon Car Championship, who have three 15 minute races.

The final race of the meeting is an ‘All comers’ race open to all drivers already racing in the meeting, with the exception of OSS cars as the speed differential is too great.
