SEASON REVIEW: MIGHTY MINIS

CATEGORIES:

The ever popular Mighty Minis racing had a fantastic 2009 with both of the championship grids growing throughout the season.

Needless to say the racing was as exciting as ever in both categories. Chris Morgan was ‘Buttonesque’ in his early season attack winning a handful of the races to gain an advantage over his fellow competitors. This put him in good stead for the rest of the season and it was no surprise to see him win the championship with one race to go.

Super Mighty Minis was equally as hard fought; Pat Ford struggled early on to defend his championship title, with ill health finally putting paid to his 2009 efforts. Ben Seyfried managed to get regular visits to the podium with a few race wins but consistency was the name of the game, particularly as the other top contenders, Scott Kendal, Neven and David Kirkpatrick were not giving an inch which resulted in inconsistent race finishes.

Kendal came on form midway through the season and fought tooth and nail to gain the upper hand, with repeated race wins, so the title battle went down to the wire. He moved himself up to a very possible mathematical championship win but the ever consistent Seyfried stayed out of trouble at the end of season Silverstone Grand Prix round and clinched the title with a narrow margin.

David Kirkpatrick always looked to be a threat but a few unfortunate gremlins ended his charge two rounds from the end of the season, and annoyingly for him his younger brother Neven stole third away from him at the last round. Elliott Stafford, the 2008 Standard Mighty Minis champion moved up from Standard Mighty Minis to the Supers and it to took a few races to get up to speed, however he has certainly thrown down the gauntlet, with a race win at the last race at Silverstone beating many of the stalwarts.

As ever the Ladies championship was well supported with eight ladies fighting it out for the title. Jo Polley and Louise Inch were a cut above the rest but a few bad finishes saw Polley loose out to Inch in the final points tally.

The anticipation for 2010 is growing and it is certainly going to be entertaining. If you witnessed any of the 2009 races and are keen to find out more there will be a Super Mighty Mini on the BRSCC stand (No.7250) in Hall 7 with the drivers and organisers present to answer any of your questions.
