News SILVERSTONE SUPERCARS
The FIA GT1 World Championship comes to Silverstone this weekend for a three day meeting that starts tomorrow morning and with officials from HQ and the Midlands Centre, the BRSCC are at the helm of the organising team.|
The Silverstone Supercar event will be the first event to operate from the 'Silverstone Wing' which opened just over two weeks ago. The three day extravaganza brings together iconic sports car brands Aston Martin, Corvette Ford, Lamborghini and Nissan – in spectacular competition in an exciting sprint format.
The Championship is the pinnacle of sports car racing and features 10 teams, 20 cars and 40 of the world’s leading drivers, so Silverstone's legendary curves will resonate to the thundering sound of the world's finest supercars, as tens of millions of pounds worth of cars do battle over what promises to be a spectacular weekend of racing.
In this its second year, the FIA GT1 World Championship is ground-breaking, truly global, prestigious, and technically innovative; ushering in a new era for sports car racing. As Stephane Ratel, the promoter of the FIA GT1 World Championship, says: “the series showcases the pinnacle of sports car racing in a single world championship and is now one of the ‘big four’ international motorsport series recognised by the FIA.
The winners of Sunday’s FIA GT1 World Championship race will take home the historic and coveted Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy, which has in the past been won by such legends as Sir Stirling Moss, Graham Hill and Derek Bell.
