The Club’s East Anglian Centre gets their season underway this weekend with a packed two day meeting at Snetterton that consists of 15 races.

Saturday’s schedule starts with a 1 hour qualifying session for the Fun Cup with their 4 hour race following after lunch. It is 13 years since Fun Cups conception and it is still as popular as ever with 14 new teams joining the series this season.

The only other race on Saturday is the Caterham Holland Invitation race. 11 Dutch drivers have made the trip across the channel and will be joined on the grid by 26 UK based Caterhams from the Roadsports, Supersports & SuperGrad championships.

Sunday’s races really demonstrate that club motorsport is still very much alive and kicking. The Ma5da MX5 Championship has 58 cars entered that will necessitate the entries being split into 3 groups. Rob Boston leads the points table after the Brands Hatch opener but 2009 champion Tom Roche is just a point behind.

Meanwhile, the Competition Car Insurance/Dunlop Ford Fiesta Championship fields 43 cars across its 3 classes. After the Lydden Hill double header Tim Bennett (Class A) and Mark Tilbury (Class C) are tied for the lead with Class B’s Harry Cockhill just 2 points further adrift. Drivers in both championships will enjoy 2 races each.

Making its competitive debut at Snett is the Mazda MX5 Mk3 which will run in two races allied with a mixture of Caterham’s and MX5 Mk1’s. Five Mk3’s will initially be on show including that of Ma5da Racing Director Jonathan Blake.

Out for their second round of the season is the BRSCC Alfashop Alfa Romeo Championship. Class C’s Shaun Hazelwood won at Castle Combe and he will be out to extend his lead over Chris Healey & 2009 champion Paul Plant.

The SRCC Sports 2000 Duratec & Pinto Championships will also be well represented at Snetterton. 2009 winner Mike Jenvey is back albeit in a March and in the Pintos Dave Houghton, Paul Streat and Andy Mathew will be amongst the front runners..
