News SNETTERTON'S SIX TITLE SHOOT-OUT!
No less than six championship titles are up for grabs at this weekend’s BRSCC East Anglian Centre ‘Finals’ meeting which takes place at Snetterton on Saturday & Sunday. By the time the 17 races have been run every BRSCC championship will have been settled.|
An amazing seven drivers are still in the frame in the Formula Jedi Championship where just 76 points separate them. With 80 points to be won it will go down to the last corner. Andrew Dunn heads the standings, only 4 points ahead of 2008 champion Jack Smith. Although the two main protagonists have a slight points advantage over the chasing pack it would not take a lot to bring other drivers quickly into play.
The picture is only slightly clearer in the Avon Tyres Caterham Roadsport B Championship where five drivers go into the final double-header still cherishing thoughts of title glory, although two drivers have edged away from the pack. Essex man Lee Wiggins looked sure for the Academy title last year, only to spin it away in the final race. He’s in a similar position this year and with the same contenders behind him. Victory that day went to Jeremy Webb and it’s the Kent driver who is once again hot on Wiggins’ heels. Behind them, barely anything separates Ben Whibley, Martin Addison and Steve Day.
In the Roadsport A Championship Jamie Orton heads the table with a slim points margin. The Londoner comes to Snetterton full of confidence but challenger JJ O’Malley won’t be overawed although he will need to count on Orton having some bad luck. In between the pair, Colards Motorsport’s Graham Johnson has been more consistent but less successful overall.
With the addition of the Boxster class the Porsche Championship has enjoyed a renaissance this year. Therefore it is fitting that going into the last two races Dave Clarke from the Boxsters and Andrew Hannington from the 924’s go head to head for the title. Clark has been the class of the Boxster field since joining the series at the second race of the season, taking a staggering 10 victories in 12 races entered, yet he has just a slender 2 point lead over Hannington. Andrew has been in the form of his career this season, taking three Class wins and numerous podiums.
In the Mighty Minis Louise Inch will be hoping to become the second woman to win a BRSCC title in a week after Mel Healey took the Alfa crown last Sunday. If the popular Devonian is to achieve her goal she will have to get the better of Matt Pinny, the only driver who can stop her.
This time last year Chris Morgan won the Mighty Minis title and having moved up to the Supers he is looking for back to back titles. He has every chance but it is Fareham’s Scott Kendall who has the narrow points advantage and the title in his hands.
With James MacLachlan long since having won the Avon Tyres Caterham Supersport title the focus turns to the battle for the runner-up spot. Nathan Lindop is the favourite and his chief rival will be the grey car of PIM Racing’s Robert Smith; the only other victor this year. It’s been either Smith or Lindop usually occupying second place, generally just a few hundredths behind Maclachlan. Lindop currently has the edge, finishing ahead of Smith seven times to Smith’s five so far this year, but with the scores so close he’ll have to keep Smith behind him to be sure of the runner-up trophy.
Tony Sinclair was confirmed as the Itchy Feet OSS champion at the last meeting but he will be out at Snetterton to try and regain the Archie Scott Brown Trophy that he won last season. Behind him the battle will rage for the Class B title where Ginger Marshall and Simon Tilling are the contenders.
It is has been another great season in the Arrowpak backed Euro Saloon & Sports Car championship. Nick Hayes secured the title last month at Anglesey but there will battles down through the impressive grid with class titles still to be decided.
