Mallory Park in Leicestershire played host to a spectacular one day meeting courtesy of our Midlands Centre, where the weather and the racing on display was varied. Nevertheless despite the wet conditions at times, it certainly didn’t dampen the spirits of the competitors out on track across the day.

The Toyo Tires Porsche Championship once again provided a triple header of multi-class contests containing both Boxsters and 924s. Despite putting in an entry right at the last moment, Race Boxster points leader Richard Styrin made sure that he was right on time when it came to his pace with a front row start alongside polesitter James Coleman. Even though there was an initial advantage to Styrin after jumping into the lead, Coleman made sure the winning margin wasn’t as large as it had been in the past for Richard, only taking the top step by half a second with Garry Lawrence in 3rd. Styrin had an easier time of it in Race 2 as he romped to a 10 second victory with Lawrence taking a step higher with P2 and Richard Avery 3rd. The top two remained unchanged into the 3rd race with Nick Hull picking up a healthy 3rd place for his troubles.

Over with the 924 class, Philip Waters couldn’t be touched in his first race triumph as he headed John Broadley by over 7 seconds with Jamie Callender completing the podium, before duplicating his success in Race 2 with the only change to the podium being Linda Warren taking over 2nd. There was no stopping Philip in the 3rd race either as he also took a clean sweep of the weekend, with Callender a step higher this time in P2 ahead of Hugh Peart. Andrew Baker was also in the mix as the sole representative in Class B for production-spec Boxsters.

Neil Harrison was the main to beat in the first of two Monoposto Tiedeman Trophy races, as he commanded the race from starting 3rd on the grid, with Terry Clark and Byrn Tootell bring home their pair of Van Diemen Formula Ford chassis in 2nd and 3rd overall as well as besting the 2000 class. Chris Kite’s Invitation class Dallara had finished 3rd on the road, however he and one other driver were handed with 10 second penalties for jump starts. Shane Kelly made sure the second race was his and his alone, romping away to a superb 24 second win from Harrison, with Ewen Sergison taking his Swift SC99Z onto the podium behind them.

Track Attack also had 4 series out across the day, starting with the Justmotorsportads.com Nippon Challenge once again pairing up with the Deutsche Marques Cup. Richard Hockley ensured he was the man who couldn’t be touched with a sensational win aboard his GT250 class Honda Civic Type R, decimating the rest of the field by at least 25 seconds. That said, Craig Tomkinson also did the same against his Deutsche Marques competitors as he took the little Opel Corsa to a staggering overall win in his category, as well as 2nd overall. Andrew Roberts in another Civic would wind up 3rd and winner of GT200.

Next it was time for the Tricolore Trophy Invitational which is reserved only for French manufacturers. In their solo showdown, Andrew Mitchell took his Class B Peugeot 205 GTi to victory lane, however he was only able to reach the flag ahead of David Clark’s Class G Renault 5 Turbo by just 1.2 seconds, being kept honest all the way. 3rd went to Tony Hunter in his Class A Renault Clio, while other class victories went the way of Russ Thomas (Class F), George Gougher (Class E) and Steve Cutts (Class C)

Their final race of the day incorporated all 3 series on the track together, making for a very crowded and busy racetrack. When it was all said and done, it was Richard Hockley who once again showed his dominant pace to take his second win of the day aboard his Civic. Andrew Mitchell also made sure no-one could touch him in Tricolore Trophy with 2nd overall, while 3rd place saw Craig Tomkinson take away his second trophy of the event with 3rd place and best of the Deutsche Marques. Impressively, this meant that the winners of all 3 series had made the rostrum!

Finally, there was also a pair of races for the YourIrishShop.com MR2 Race Series for Mk1 Toyota MR2s. Arron Pullan clinched pole position in qualifying before dutifully setting off into a lead he would not lose, charging his way to the win in fine style for Race 1. Peter Higton came in as best of the rest in 2nd place with Adam Lockwood trailing them home with 3rd. Pullan would double up in the second race, however this time he was given more to think about by Lockwood who made sure his winning margin remained within less than a second by the end. Nathan Harrison would also take a trophy home with 3rd place some 18 seconds back.

Our thanks to all competitors involved our magnificent marshals, the Club’s Midlands personnel and Mallory Park for a brilliant race day. We’ll see you again next year! You can find a full breakdown of the day’s results via TSL Timing at MALLORY PARK RESULTS.
