The BRSCC has a very busy weekend ahead with no less than three meetings taking place and our Midlands Centre are running two of them, at Donington Park and Rockingham respectively.

The National Circuit at Donington will host seventeen races over the course of the two day meeting and there is a great mixture of single-seating, saloon car and sports car racing.

Saturday’s race action gets underway with the Post 89 category of the Avon Tyres Northern Formula Ford 1600 Championship, in which the drivers will also be battling for points in the National Championship. The Medina Sport prepared cars of brothers David and Tom McArthur occupy positions 1 and 3 in the standings, with Portsmouth’s James Raven sandwiched between the pair in his Cliff Dempsey Racing Ray GR13/14. The champion is likely to come from this trio although Oldfield Motorsport’s Stuart Gough is still very much in the mix.

The Pre 90 Formula Ford battle is shaping up as a straight fight between current champion Jamie Jardine and last year’s runner-up Chris Hodgen, the latter currently with the upper-hand. However, it is not just about the lead pair as there are numerous class battles throughout the field.

With new sponsors, Excool, on board, the OSS Championship has had a real shot in the arm this season and an impressive 20 spectacular sports prototypes are geared up to do battle at Donington over three races. Josh Smith’s Bridgwater College prepared Radical PR6 is currently setting the pace but Craig Fleming’s Class B Juno is just one point adrift.

After a four-week break, the Fiesta Junior Championship heads to Donington for rounds 9 & 10 of the 2014 Championship. Current FJC leader, Robert Cox, will arrive at Donington in very confident mood as he has very fond memories of the Leicestershire track having won there last September, before taking P3 in the second tour. Michael Higgs, Thomas Grundy, Geri Nicosia and Aaron Thompson all took part in that double-header, so all five drivers with previous experience of Donington will be hoping that gives them a big advantage over the other four, which includes newcomer Alexander Tait.

This weekend sees the final rounds of the BSA Division 1 Superkart Championship and the English Championship for F250 and F450 Superkarts. Carl Hulme heads the points table in the Division 1 series and he is hoping that a good result this weekend will secure his first ever Division 1 title after many years of trying. The English Championship for F250 single cylinder Superkarts is led by Gavin Bennett. His closest challengers are Trevor Roberts on the Raider Honda and Aaron Sifleet using the new Gas Gas engine.

In Class C of the Jam-Sport Fiesta Championship, Ipswich’s David Ellesley will endeavour to start a new winning run after his previous one of six wins from seven came to an end in the second race at Cadwell last month. David Grady was the man to break the cycle and he will be confident he can start his own victory sequence. Ed Cockill returns to the fray in the Jam-Sport Fiesta double-header for classes A, B & D. Ed sat out the Cadwell rounds having lent his car to his brother Harry, who duly won both races. David Abbott, Al Daly and James Appleby will be determined to try and ensure it isn’t another successful weekend for the Cockill family.

The Duratec & Pinto categories of the BigProfile Sports 2000 Championship join forces to put 31cars on the grid for a double-header. Its catch up time for the rest of the grid as Patrick Sherrington in the MCR continues to dominate in the Duratecs. Alaric Gordon in his Carbir CS2 had the gap down to less than a second at Oulton, so he, plus David Houghton, Tom Stoten and Peter Needham are the challengers Sherrington needs to be wary of. After 3 rounds, the leading Pinto light has to be Damien Griffin (Lola T598) but in hot pursuit are two other Lola peddlers Mike Fry and Colin Feyerabend and the demon wet weather specialist Mark Powell.

The Met Office is forecasting for it to be dry and warm on Saturday but there is a strong chance of heavy overnight rain and then light rain for prolonged spells throughout Sunday. You can check the forecast at MET OFFICE FORECAST FOR DONINGTON
